When I first encountered Human Design and Gene Keys, I was blown away by the accuracy and resonance of what they revealed about me.
If you feel skeptical reading what follows, believe me, that’s how I felt as well! And yet Human Design works. Let me share more about this system.

Human Design came as a “download” in 1987 to a Canadian man living in Ibiza, Spain. His name was Alan Robert Krakower, later known as Ra Uru Hu. Human Design weaves together astrology, chakras, I Ching, The Kabbalah Tree of Life, and quantum physics to create a bodygraph – a map of a person’s energy and potential based on their birth information.

The Human Design system is very detailed, and over time some of its teachers veered from the original teachings and shared their own interpretations. One such offshoot of Human Design is The Gene Keys by Richard Rudd. I personally find that contemplating both your Human Design bodygraph and your Gene Keys profile is optimal.

The basic idea behind Human Design is that in some areas of our lives, we mistakenly believe we are supposed to be like somebody else – and we try to improve ourselves by being or behaving more that way, instead of creating and living a life that is aligned with who we truly are. Human Design therefore gives you information to help you get back to yourself.

Here’s the tricky thing, though: you are not supposed to take HD as a prescriptive manual. My invitation is to engage with it as a tool for contemplation and experimentation. You tune in and experiment with what comes up by understanding your profile, eventually finding at a deep energetic and intuitive level what is you and what works for you.

Learning about other people’s designs also helps you relate to those near you in a more empathetic and effective way. One of the most helpful parts of Human Design is learning where we are energetically more receptive to others vs. where we show up with our own strongly defined energies. Understanding this about myself and others helped me to be more empathetic and attuned towards those near me, including when working with clients who chose to share their bodygraph with me.
