How to Change Careers in Los Angeles
Thank you to everyone who came to Tech for Impact! We are already working on the next great event, in the meantime, enjoy the recording of the panel below. Psst...my events always have an interactive component with the audience, but I don't record that to protect people's privacy + you wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much from home 😉

What if you could use technology to have an IMPACT on what you care most about? What if technology changed your life? And what if you discovered yourself to be so much more than you ever thought possible…. We'll talk about this and more on March 28 at TECH FOR IMPACT!

Join Repurpose Your Purpose on Thursday March 28 for TECH FOR IMPACT - an in-depth discussion about what it's like to live your values and create a career that works for you while making a difference in the world.
From choosing to leave the safe path in order to use one's talents for good, from discovering being a real PRINCESS (what?!?!) to helping people who are most in need, from creating community to making technical skills more widely available, from embracing all the learning that comes from emigrating to tackling big problems for the city of LA, these career changers embraced their PURPOSE and are using TECH FOR IMPACT.
The best part? They didn't all have to be "techies" to do it. Repurpose Your Purpose is a program to help you choose what to do professionally and support you while you go for it. Founder Aurora Meneghello's career advice has been featured on CNBC, Glassdoor Blog, Bustle Magazine, and more.

Meet the TECH FOR IMPACT panelists:
PRINCESS SARAH CULBERSON OF SIERRA LEONE was adopted one year after her first birthday by a loving, white West Virginia couple and raised in the United States with little knowledge of her ancestry. In 2004 Sarah took the journey to Sierra Leone to meet her birth father and family and discovered she was considered a mahaloi, the child of a Paramount Chief, with the status of a princess. After going to Sierra Leone and seeing the aftermath of an 11 year civil war she co-founded Sierra Leone Rising, a non-profit to support the community. Sarah shared her story in a book she co-authored titled, "A Princess Found". Her story has been featured on CNN, Good Morning America, BBC radio, LA Times, Singapore News and many other media outlets. Her passion for education does not stop with Sierra Leone; as Director of Outreach at the Oakwood School in Los Angeles, Sarah works daily with middle and high school students.
JUAN SEBASTIAN VASQUEZ tackles big problems with creative solutions as Data Programs Manager at the Office of Finance for the City of Los Angeles. His role merges data analysis and visualization, storytelling, a wide network of web tools, partnership building, and a wealth of public speaking and project management. Last year he also started his own business during his free time offering freelance professional and educational data-centric services to clients such as General Assembly, First 5 LA, and Annenberg Tech.
KAYLA MCCULLEY is Trilogy Education's Corporate Events Outreach Manager - West. Trilogy Education partners with the world’s leading universities to help companies bridge the digital skills gap and Kayla connects tech industry professionals with top talent throughout the West region. She leveraged all her experience in relationship building, event management, digital communications, program management and alumni relations to change careers herself and is the first Repurposer (a graduate of Repurpose Your Purpose's Group Program) to appear on one of our panels.
EMMA YEE believes product managers are responsible for making the world a better place by building software that improves users lives, even in the smallest way. She loves data and working in agile environments (which produce feedback quickly). She has applied analysis to her own life to the point that she's extremely efficient - her teams vary from 15-17 total engineers, 2-3x the average team size of a PM. She also takes care of the big picture, driving strategy and launching large, complex projects, because "without the big picture there would be no needle to move."

We are meeting at PhaseTwo Coworking Space. Arrive and mingle between 6:30 and 6:55 pm, panel starts promptly at 7 pm, followed by audience Q&A. Then stay for guided group activities to get you started on your journey to use what you already know to do something new!
